and I saw this atrocious article be featured on MSN Today.

It's atrocious in its content, not that it was badly written.

I feel so...angry and disgusted and repulsed. Cancer is real. Cancer is scary. Cancer can cause deaths, people. Stupid, insensitive, selfish moronic people who do these sorts of things makes me want to...to hurt them... A lot.

Dream wedding, honeymoon donated to woman who said she had mere months to live

Residents of the city of Newburgh, N.Y., are feeling angered — and saddened — over news that they may have fallen for the worst kind of hoax.

Back in April, the local paper ran a story about Jessica Vega, a bride-to-be in her early 20s who had less than a year to live. She said she had acute myeloid leukemia, and she wanted to marry her fiancé before she had to say goodbye to him and their 11-month-old baby girl.

Her story generated an outpouring of sympathy and support from big-hearted locals. They donated a wedding dress, wedding rings, wedding flowers, wedding photos, hair-styling and makeup for the entire bridal party, and a honeymoon in Aruba.

But over Labor Day weekend, those same locals were stunned to learn they may have been tricked. In an article in the Times Herald-Record — the same paper that ran the original piece about Vega — her husband Michael O’Connell alleged that Vega’s cancer diagnosis had been faked.

I feel sickened now, so sickened...

For some reason this article seems really familiar to me... I might have heard about this story before, I think. I can't imagine how someone can do something like that:(

I remember reading about Ashley Anne Kirilow a few weeks ago, and she was mentioned near the bottom of this article. The others I don't recognize.

Possibly you're both thinking of a similar instance that happened here in Maryland. Can't remember her name, but a woman here faked breast cancer for three years, shaving her head, starving herself to get the emaciated chemo look, went to support groups and everything. She scammed several people of thousands of dollars before she was finally caught. Its absolutely sickening the things people will do at the expense of others, not just her victims personally, but for actual cancer victims everywhere.

Mmmm, no, I remember Ashley Anne Kirilow because I read several articles about her when the story broke and even went on her Facebook fan page (for support) where the wall posts went from supporting to pained/angry comments. She also starved herself to appear like she went through chemotherapy. She also got a free trip to Disney World, and I read this before my Disney trip and I was shocked! Yeah, Disney... The little things that makes a story stick in our heads...

The article does mention "Dina Perouty-Leone, a Maryland mother of two teenagers" so is this who you're thinking of?

Was there a big outrage when that obnoxious Sarah Silverman went around saying she had AIDS as a joke? For whatever reason, this makes me think of that.
