I didn't go to the gym today to give my body rest from Thursday's workout. However, Matt had loaned me a set of 3lbs dumbbells. I used them in the apartment today. They've been lying around since spring semester, either in my dorm room or here. *feels a bit guilty for not using them more*

I started doing my exercises while watching the end of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. (No offense to people who love the movie, but I found it boring and dragging. I can appreciate it as a novelty for its full-length animated feature, though. I'm spoiled by the contemporary animated films.) Since I used 5lbs weights at the gym, I doubled some of the exercises for my 3lbs weights.

June 25, 2010 – Friday
2x10 –Alternating Bicep Curls – 3lbs
1x10 – Dumbbell Rows – 3lbs
2x10 – Dumbbells Tricep Extensions – 3lbs
1x10 – Shoulder Shrugs – 3 lbs
2x10 – Front Raise – 3lbs
1x10 – Calf raise –3lbs
2x10 – Lunges – 3lbs

I'm still unsure whether I'm going to the gym tomorrow. It'd make sense, though the gym is likely to be more busy since it's the weekend. Well, we're see how the day turns out. I'm planning on watching the USA-Ghana game at least, and hopefully visiting Farmer's Market before that. Either way, I hope to feel a sense of accomplishment with tomorrow. :-)

It has its moments. I think you have to be kind of willing to "live it" to appreciate it. Remember that not only was animation new at the time, but sound movies were only about 10 years old. Then again, it's just a fairy tale, not Tolkein or CS Lewis.

You'd probably like "Snow White: A Tale of Terror" better!

I couldn't finish Tolkien's The Hobbit which made me not want to try Lord of the Ring, actually.

"Rings" is quite a lot better than "The Hobbit." He was older and more experienced by then. By the time he wrote "Rings," Tolkein had a fairly complete history of Middle Earth well under way, so he was able to incorporate all these other legends and side stories into the books. That's what gives them their richness and realism.

I think "The Hobbit" is somewhat like the Harry Potter books-- it works with ideas everybody is already familiar with: witches, elves, goblins and all the other familiar European and Celtic creatures and concepts. In "Rings," he really puts his own stamp on the story.

I rather like the Harry Potter books. If LOTR is as description-heavy as The Hobbit was, in the beginning, I still don't think I could read them.

You might try the movie version of "Fellowship of the Ring" and see if you like it. Or the BBC radio show:

And of course... "Snow White: A Tale of Terror:"

I've seen the LOTR movies, though not the BBC Dramatization. I refuse to see the LOTR movies again.
