Do books count? I'm not a hardcore first edition collector, but I do have several limited editions of books, like Melinda by Neil Gaiman and Dagmara Matuzak, or J.K. Rowling's The Tales of Beedle the Bard and the signed limited edition of Tori's Comic Book Tattoo (well, not really by her, more like 50-ish short comics inspired by her songs, but she signed it). I also have several books signed by Neil Gaiman, either I bought online or one someone I knew mailed to me during his Graveyard Book tour. I also have every book of Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel series, scattered in different countries they may be. One of them is signed (Naamah's Kiss) and her upcoming one is going to be personalized (Naamah's Curse).

But no, I'm not a serious collector in anything. I move too often, I'm too poor and I guess I'm not passionate enough about one thing or another. I'd like to be a collector of Audrey Kawasaki's art, or Nene Thomas's, but Audrey's prints are way too expensive for the likes of me, and also the constant moving hurts with the packing of the prints.

The more I get to know you, the more I find we have in common. I didn't know you liked Nene Thomas, too. I LOVE her. I got to meet her in 2007 at Dragon*Con and she signed my calendar. She's a sweetheart. :)

You're so lucky!! I have yet to go to any conventions or any author's tours! I have her 2009 calendar! :D

Do you know [livejournal.com profile] s00j? I see she's in your friends list. :) That would be another thing I didn't know we had in common.

I don't know [livejournal.com profile] s00j personally. I found her music through Catherynne Valente, and I saw s00j perform in Chicago last October. :D Do you know her?

I met her last year at DucKon. She sang Firebird's Child and blew me away. It's one of my favorite songs ever. She is friends with Vixy & Tony and Seanan McGuire, who are all friends of Adam's, so we all hung out. It was awesome. I hope she comes back this year. She's really sweet. I have an autographed CD of hers. :D If you read her LJ entry from last summer about someone jumping out of her seat and running to by the CD ASAP, she's talking about me. Heehee.

Yeah, Firebird's Child is a pretty awesome song. My favorite, though, is "We Are Shangri-La" from the Palimpsest soundtrack. I can easily imagine swaying to the song and feeling mysterious and seductive and feminine... I used to play it on repeat when I first got it last year.

The world is so small! I found out my professor has a good friend who's good friends with Amanda Palmer so she's hung out with Amanda Palmer once (or a few times) though this was before Amanda Palmer met Neil Gaiman! And your Adam knows s00j's friends. Argh, I'm a few degrees away from fame! :-P

I met someone who adores Tricky Pixie earlier this month -- she's another Alas! dancer! It's so cool meeting more people!

I'm going to find that Shangri-La song now!

Firebird's Child is my ringtone. :)

Here's one of the pix I took last year after dinner. It's kinda blurry cause they were dancing, but still fun:

Oh, thanks for the picture! I took a picture with her and Matt last October; she's so petite!

I could email you the Shangri-La song, if you want! (Don't know your email address, but you could message it to me.)

I bought the Shangri-la song last night. It's really good!
You're right, she's very petite. I love her sense of style, with the ribbons and the skirts and everything.

I think her sense of style is something I'd like to look at, on people it suits, but would never want for myself. Knowing me, I'd get all tangled up in the ribbons or they'd get caught on something!

lovelovelove Audrey Kawasaki... Wish I could get some prints too, but they are pricey and I am poor :(

Yay, books! I think they're the best thing to collect. Well, maybe second to music... but it's a close call!

Your icon is pretty fab!

I'm glad to find someone else who knows and likes Audrey Kawasaki! I bought one of her last prints, but it was a timed sale, so it wasn't as bloody expensive as her limited edition sale.

Yeah her work is beautiful, so delicate. Which print did you get?

My plan for next month is to get a nice print for my lounge. My house is starting to look quite nice - got my new mirror, spice rack and curtain rail thing for over the bed up.. but I really need to get some nice pictures in my lounge. At the moment I have a Watchman poster and a few old pictures I cut off a calendar hehe!

I bought this one! http://hani.livejournal.com/458428.html

Ooh, spice rack! Those always amaze me since we just stood them up in a cupboard in the houses I grew up in.

How did I miss that post?! God, what a gorgeous print, I think I could look at that for hours. Absolutely beautiful :)

Hehe, I only have one cupboard on a wall in my kitchen and it was getting overrun with herbs and spices. The new spice rack is more of a basket-on-a-rail, but it's quite cute hehe. Just taken some pics up of my house, I finally feel like it's in a state where I don't feel too embarrassed about letting people see it. I don't think I've taken any photos of it in the year and a half I've lived here!

Yeah, I like where it is on my wall :)

I like the photos you put up on your house!
